What we do

LiveTamilNadu publishes the gold and silver rate for six cities in Tamil Nadu, in English and Tamil, updated twice a day.

Alongside the rates there are calculators for what jewellery actually costs once making charges and GST are added, what a jeweller is likely to pay for old gold, what a gold loan repayment works out at, and how gold compares with a fixed deposit.

Who runs it

One person, independently. There is no newsroom and no company behind this — it is a small site built to answer a question people ask every morning.

Where the numbers come from

International spot prices for gold and silver come from a market data provider. Those are converted to rupees per gram and adjusted for Indian import duty and the local retail premium.

The adjustment is checked against published Chennai market rates and corrected when it drifts. Rates are recorded twice daily and kept, which is what builds the price history and charts.

What we are honest about

Our rates are indicative, and the site says so on every page. Where information is a placeholder rather than live data, the page says that too.

We would rather show nothing than show a number we cannot stand behind.

Advertising

The site is free and will be funded by advertising and sponsorship. Anything paid for will be marked as such. We will not publish a sponsor's claim about a rate as though it were our own.
